The client
Dronfield Medical Practice is an NHS GP practice in Dronfield, Derbyshire.
The challenge
A practice website has to work for everyone on the patient list — every age, every device, every level of confidence online — and get each of them to what they came for quickly: an appointment, a prescription, a phone number, the opening times.
So this site is plain on purpose. We delivered it working with the practice’s Patient Participation Group, and built it to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA — the standard public sector websites are expected to meet.
- The top tasks first — appointments, prescriptions and the phone numbers sit in large tiles at the top of the homepage.
- Built to WCAG 2.2 AA — it works with a keyboard alone and with a screen reader, zooms to 300% without text spilling off the screen, and comes with a published accessibility statement.
- Shaped with patients — delivered with the Patient Participation Group, the people who actually use it.
- Information that keeps itself current — the practice’s CQC rating is checked daily, and news comes straight from the practice’s Facebook page.
- A custom WordPress theme — so the practice team can update pages themselves.
